The Kentucky Derby takes place in the USA this Saturday, May 3rd. The race is setting up to be a great one this year with three favourites heading into the race, and plenty of horses considered contenders with morning line odds of 12-1 or better. It’s really anyone’s guess as to which horse will win on Saturday, which makes it all the more interesting from a betting perspective.
The morning line odds were released following the post position draw last Saturday evening, but I expect those odds to move significantly on race day with Journalism (3-1), Sovereignty (5-1), and Sandman (6-1) as the three favourites according to the morning line odds.

My Pick
I will be betting on Journalism on Saturday. He’s a proven winner that was the favourite at most sportsbooks before the morning line was released.
Journalism is coming off a win in the Santa Anita Derby where he posted strong time of 1:49.56. He also won the San Felipe and Los Alamitos Futurity in his previous two races and has now won four races in a row. He’s a horse that finds a way to win, which is why I like him to come out on top in this big field on Saturday.

As you can see, Journalism had plenty in the tank down the stretch to beat Baeza. I think he could be even better in the longer distance of the Kentucky Derby.
