The Kentucky Derby takes place in the USA this Saturday, May 2nd. The race is setting up to be a great one this year with five favourites heading into the race, and plenty of horses considered contenders with morning line odds of 15-1 or better. It’s really anyone’s guess as to which horse will win on Saturday, which makes it all the more interesting from a betting perspective.
The morning line odds were released following the post position draw last Saturday evening, but I expect those odds to move significantly on race day with Renegade (4-1), Commandment (6-1), Further Ado (6-1), Chief Wallabee (8-1), and The Puma (10-1) as the five favourites according to the morning line odds.

My Pick
I will be betting on Further Ado on Saturday. He’s a proven winner that has the best speed figures coming into the race.
Further Ado is coming off a win in the Blue Grass Stakes where he posted strong time of 1:49.58. He also won the Kentucky Jockey Club G2 race last November, and has now won 3 of his past 4 races. He’s a horse that has shown he has the speed and endurance to win big races, which is why I like him to come out on top in this big field on Saturday.

As you can see, Further Ado had plenty in the tank down the stretch to win running away. I think he could be even better this Saturday.
