There are only two more months left in the 2014-15 NHL regular season and the playoff picture is starting to shape up. The East is pretty well set for the 8 teams that will battle it out to make the Stanley Cup Finals this spring, but the Western Conference is still up in the air with teams like the Minnesota Wild, Dallas Stars and defending champion LA Kings on the outside looking in, but still with a legitimate shot at making the playoffs.

My Favourite Picks
As you can see there’s really no big time favourites this season. Of the 3 teams that sit with the best odds at this moment I think the Blues definitely are the most likely to win the Cup this year. The Blues have always been given a good shot heading into the playoffs, but this year I see them as having an evolved team. They used to be considered a hard working team that played hard and laid the body. They still play that style, but they’ve seen the emergence of young extremely talented players like Tarasenko and Schwartz who know how to put the puck in the net and have taken on a bigger role on this team. The Blues are my favourites to win the cup at this time.
I also love the Blackhawks at 9.00. The Hawks are pretty much always the best in the league over the past 5 seasons according to me.
It’s interesting that Western Conference teams are the four favourites to win the Cup and then this is followed up with 3 Atlantic Division teams from the East. From the East I actually like the Bruins with odds of 15.00. As long as they can avoid the Habs who have their number they should be favourites against any other teams in the West.
In the West my long shot picks are the Kings at 26.00 and the Wild at 31.00. I think both of these teams will find a way to sneak into the playoffs and once there they will be as hard to eliminate as any team from either Conference. The defending champs at 26.00 especially is a great pick. The Kings have never been the best regular season team around, but they have shown they know how to win when the playoffs get going.
