Dallas Cowboys Analysis…
The Cowboys are in the thick of the NFC playoff race thanks to their recent winning streak. However, the ongoing saga with Ezekiel Elliott has been a big distraction that could affect the team as it makes its playoff push.
After months of legal motions that have allowed him to play in all of the Cowboys games this season, Elliott’s suspension was reinstated last Monday. On Friday, another court granted the running back a stay, allowing him to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
This week, Elliott’s status is in limbo once again because the stay was only for last week’s game. A panel of judges will meet this week to determine of Elliott will be allowed to play on Sunday.
Without Elliott in the lineup, the Cowboys will turn to Alfred Morris and Rod Smith, who took all the second team reps last week as the team was preparing to play without Elliott.
The Key to Dallas’ recent success is the play of their defense, which hasn’t allowed more than 19 points in their last three games. With the defense playing so well, the offense has been feeding off them and has also been very efficient.
Atlanta Falcons Analysis…
The Falcons have been unable to sustain their hot start to the season, and have lost four of their last five games. Thanks to their recent slide, the Falcons are now in third place in the NFC South, behind the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.
If the Falcons want to make it back to the playoffs this year, they have to start playing a lot better on offense. Their defense has been pretty good for most of the season, and haven’t allowed more than 23 points in each of their last five games.
Their offense on the other hand, which was one of the best in the NFL last season, has been very inconsistent, scoring 20 or more points only once in their last five games.
At 4-4, the Falcons can’t afford too many more losses so they need to get their season back on track with a win against the Cowboys on Sunday.
The Falcons will be much better offensively in this one, but they struggled against the run in Carolina last week and will face a stronger running game this week. Take the Cowboys +3.5.
